Ruby Red Star original USSR Poster

made about 1970-1980

Star is Zenith and Top power symbol

From USSR mythology:

The five-pointed red star has often served as a symbol of communism. One interpretation sees the five points as representing the five fingers of the worker's hand, as well as the five continents. A lesser-known suggestion is that the five points on the star were intended to represent the five social groups that would lead USSR to communism: the youth, the military, the industrial labourers, the agricultural workers or peasantry and the intelligentsia.

Story:

The Kremlin stars (Russian: Кремлёвские звёзды, tr. Kremlyovskiye zvyozdy) are pentagonal luminescent ruby stars, installed in the 1930s on five towers of the Moscow Kremlin, replacing gilded eagles that had symbolized Imperial Russia. In 1937, these stars were replaced with new ones made of ruby glass, in time for the 20th anniversary of the October Revolution. One more star was also installed on the Vodovzvodnaya tower.
The symbols become apart of the state and the ruling ideology of the former USSR and the Present-day Russia and Belarus, complementing the official coat of arms, which is complex in its image. The designing of the Red Star was commissioned by Fyodor Fedorovsky.

Fyodor Fyodorovich Fedorovsky (Russian: Фёдор Фёдорович Федоровский) (December 26 (O.S. December 14), 1883, Chernigov — September 7, 1955, Moscow) was a Soviet stage designer, People's Artist of the USSR (1951), and an active member of the Soviet Academy of Arts (1947; in 1947-1953 - academy's vice president), author of Kremlin stars.
Fyodor Fedorovsky was awarded the Stalin Prize on several occasions (1941, 1943, 1949, 1950, 1951), Order of Lenin, two other orders, and numerous medals.

On May 7, 1918, the symbol of the "star of Mars with a plow and a hammer" was approved by the order of the People's Commissariat for Military Affairs Lev Trotsky. The propaganda leaflets of the Bolsheviks explained: "The Red Star is the star of the happiness of all the poor, peasants and workers." Originally it was a military attribute; according to Trotsky's orders, civilians were threatened with a tribunal for wearing it. After the Civil War, the star was made an element of the flags and emblems of the USSR and the Union republics. The five-pointed red star has become a symbol of the state and the ruling ideology, complementing the official coat of arms, which is complex in its image. In the same years, its new symbolic meaning appeared: 5 rays are 5 continents, which will soon unite under the banner of communism.

About star symbol:

The five-pointed star is one of the most ancient symbols of mankind, its image was found by archaeologists in rock paintings of the Middle East, Greece, Japan and pre-Columbian America. In different cultures, it meant military valour, protection from danger, the right path, 5 wounds of Jesus Christ and 5 daily prayers of a Muslim. Pythagoras considered the pentagram to be mathematical perfection, and Leonardo da Vinci - the symbol of the Vitruvian man. The Romans considered it a sign of the god Mars, and the Kabbalists - a sign of the Messiah. The inverted star in the Middle Ages was considered a sign of Satan. Pentagrams are present in the symbols of the United States, the European Union, China and many other countries.
