Looking at how serene these swans appear one can only guess at the frantic paddling going on beneath the surface. It is all they can do to hold their position on your mantle or shelf but at least they look magnificent doing it. Made from solid oak and available in natural or black the swans are from Norwegian design duo Everything Elevated and manufactured by Normann Copenhagen. Capturing the swans reticent industry is no easy matter, especially in a way that is recognisably swan but still original. Everything Elevated have removed almost all detail leaving only a three-dimensional shadow, a sense of these fabulous creatures holding their own against the prevailing, unsympathetic currents of the modern world. Wood is good.

Everything Elevated is a camera-shy Scandinavian Design Studio based in Brooklyn, New York. They work on all sorts of stuff apparently, good stuff by all accounts only I can’t find out what it is or who they are. I know there are two of them, at least I have been led to believe there are two of them and I suspect they are chaps but I don’t know their names, so I am going to go with Mister Everything and Mister Elevated. What I do know is they designed the rather lovely and deceptively simple swans for Normann Copenhagen which are likely to figure rather heavily in the pictorial element accompanying this biog as we don’t have photographic evidence of anything else that they may have done. The swans are great though, award-winning and suggest that Mister Everything and Mister Elevated have great success to look forward to and I can only wish them and their New York Studio the best of luck. New York? I think that might be in America.

Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen teamed up in 1999 hoping to find a new form of expression within the design industry. In 2002 they launched their first product, the lamp Norm 69 under the name: Normann Copenhagen, a brand was born. Within five years the Normann Copenhagen range consisted of almost 40 products including sculptural lighting, stunning textiles and clever home accessories and they had broadened their design horizons by collaborating with established names as well new talents from around the world. In 2009 Normann Copenhagen decided it was time to introduce furniture pieces as well, original, bold and eye-catching pieces with simple and contemporary designs that could withstand the test of time. Today Normann Copenhagen continues to introduce exciting and boldly designed products but the choice of colour has become of particular importance often changing seasonally and being inspired by trends you might more likely find in the fashion world.
